On Thursday, May 15, 2014 the Edgewater Elementary School at 5570 W. 24th Avenue will be conducting an off-site evacuation drill during which the school staff will practice evacuating all the students from the school to the church at 25th Avenue and Fenton Street. The evacuation drill is designed to train the staff and students in appropriate and safe evacuation procedures in the event an incident at the school would require the immediate evacuation of the school.

The off-site evacuation drill will result in the closure of several streets and intersections in the vicinity of the school and the church to help ensure the safety of the students and staff during the drill. The streets and intersections will be closed by deploying uniform police officers and traffic control devices.

The off-site evacuation drill will begin at about 8:30 AM and conclude at about 10:30 AM. The streets and intersections tentatively scheduled to be closed will be Fenton Street between 24th Avenue and 25th Avenue and 24th Avenue between Depew Street and Fenton Street. The Edgewater Police Department is recommending that motorists avoid the area around Edgewater Elementary School on Thursday, May 15, 2014 between 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM.
