Elder Angels in Edgewater

From Edgewater Police Department:

The Edgewater Police Department, in a partnership with the Colorado Senior Connections- Edgewater program, is sponsoring the 2014 “Elder Angels in Edgewater” holiday gift program. While the holiday season clearly has an emphasis on children of all ages, there are many others of all ages with needs in our community who are too often forgotten or overlooked. Some of the individuals in our community with the most needs, and who are often most forgotten or overlooked, are our seniors.

There are many seniors in our community who live in isolation or who have infrequent or no connections with family members. Many of these seniors who are at least 60 years of age and live among us feel that admitting their isolation, their loneliness and their real need for assistance is humiliating and embarrassing. So they remain alone, even during the holiday season when friends and family become even more important to all of us.

The “Elder Angels in Edgewater” program has identified deserving seniors in our community who will receive personalized gifts through the program. But the program cannot be successful in transforming the holiday season for these seniors without your help. We, and most importantly these seniors, need you.

Please consider purchasing and donating a gift card of $10 or more to help us purchase gifts for these deserving seniors. We are requesting gift cards from companies such as Visa or MasterCard or any major retail business such as Target or WalMart. Your donation will qualify as a charitable contribution under Section 501 C (3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code because the “Elder Angels in Edgewater” program is organized by the non-profit, Jewish Family Service agency.

Your donation can be dropped off with Katie Preston at the Edgewater Police Department at 5901 W. 25th Avenue, Monday through Friday (excluding legal holidays), from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Although the Edgewater Police Department is the site at which donations will be received, you will receive a receipt from Jewish Family Service for your contribution. In order for us to have sufficient time to purchase the gifts, the deadline for donations has to be Friday, December 5, 2014 at 5:00 PM.

If you have any questions regarding the “Elder Angels in Edgewater” program, you may contact either Katie Preston at 303.235.0500 or Felica Goett of Jewish Family Service at 720.763.3042.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and Happy Holidays!

Chief John Hough
