Edgewater Police Report: April 20, 2015

From Edgewater Police Chief John Hough:

On April 11, 2015, at about 2:15 AM, an officer on routine patrol noticed a vehicle commit several motor vehicle violations in the 1900 block of Sheridan Boulevard, including causing the officer to swerve his vehicle to avoid a near head-on collision when the vehicle crossed over into the path of his police vehicle. When the officer contacted the driver, a 30-year-old male resident of Denver, he was arrested and issued a Jefferson County Court summons for failing to operate his vehicle in a single lane of traffic, failing to obey a traffic control light and DUI.

On April 12, 2015, at about 3:50 AM, an officer conducting speed enforcement noticed a speeding vehicle southbound in the 2400 block of Sheridan Boulevard. When the officer contacted the driver, a 48-year-old female resident of Denver, she was arrested and issued a Jefferson County Court summons for speeding, drinking an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle and DUI.

On April 16, 2015, at about 1:20 AM, officers responded to an apartment complex in the 2700 block of Ingalls Street regarding a found child. The officers discovered that a resident in the apartment complex found a 5-year-old male child wandering the apartment hallway wearing only a shorts and a T-shirt when the outside temperature was 35 degrees. As the officers conducted their investigation into the welfare and parent(s) of the child, a 51-year-old female resident in the apartment returned to the scene and identified herself as the child’s mother. Despite false statements to the contrary, the officers were able to establish through their investigation that the mother of the child had left him alone for over two hours while she went to a local bar. The child was released to the custody of a sober relative with the approval of Child Protection Services. The mother of the child was transported to a local detox facility and was issued a Jefferson County Court summons for false reporting and child abuse. Jefferson County Social Services will conduct a follow-up investigation into the child’s welfare.

Sometime between 10:00 PM on April 16, 2015 and 7:30 AM on April 17, 2015, a brown 1996 Nissan Altima was stolen from an apartment complex parking lot in the 2600 block of Kendall Street.

On April 18, 2015, at about 1:25 AM, an officer on routine patrol noticed a vehicle weaving in the 2200 block of Sheridan Boulevard. When the officer contacted the driver, a 54-year-old male resident of Lakewood, he was arrested and issued a Jefferson County Court summons for weaving, failing to present proof of insurance upon request and DUI. The driver was transported to a local detox facility.

Later on April 18, 2015, at about 11:10 PM, an officer on routine patrol noticed a vehicle speeding in the 5700 block of W. 26th Avenue. When officers contacted the driver, a 29- year-old male resident of Thornton, he was arrested and issued a Jefferson County Court summons for speeding, failing to provide proof of insurance upon request and DUI. The driver was transported to a local detox facility.
