Edgewater Police Report: August 31, 2015

 

The Edgewater Police Report from Police Chief John Mackey:

On August 13, 2015 at about 11 PM an Edgewater resident rode his bicycle to the Lakeview Lounge, 2375 Sheridan Blvd. The resident chose to take a taxi home later that night and left his bicycle outside of the Lounge unattended and unlocked. The resident returned at 2 PM the next day although his bicycle was missing. The stolen bicycle is reported to be a tan Schwinn Rocket mountain bicycle valued at $2,750. Edgewater Police recommend the use of “U Bolt” style locks for the prevention of bicycle theft.

On August 18, 2015 Edgewater Officers stopped a vehicle for expired license plates. The vehicle’s license plates expired in 2006 and upon contacting the vehicle, the driver advised Officers that he had not had a license in 20 years. Officers subsequently towed the vehicle as it was unlicensed, unregistered and uninsured. The driver, a Lakewood resident was found to be double revoked habitual traffic offender, and he was cited for multiple violations.

On August 22, 2015 at about 6:40 PM, Edgewater Officers responded to the McDonalds Restaurant in the Edgewater Marketplace regarding a male party causing a disturbance. Officers observed a male party who was yelling at other patrons, and upon contacting him the male attempted to punch the officer. The male party, a 30 year old Denver resident was taken into custody and subsequently lodged at the Jefferson County Detox Center with charges of Trespassing, Open Container, and Disobeying a Police Officer.

On August 23, 2015 at about 11:25 PM Edgewater Officers received a call to assist the Lakewood Police regarding a fight with weapons and possible shots fired in the area of 17th and Eaton Street. Edgewater Officers stopped a person running from the scene who was subsequently found to be a Lakewood resident and a witness to the incident. Edgewater Officers interviewed this person and turned the information over to the Lakewood Officers.

On August 29, 2015 shortly before 11 PM Edgewater Officers received a call of a sexual assault on a child at Terra Village Apartments 2620 Kendall Street. A fifteen year old Lakewood female reported having gone over to the apartments earlier in the evening and had been assaulted by a juvenile offender – investigation ongoing as of the time of this report.

On August 30, 2015 at about 8:40 AM Edgewater Officers received a call in the 5400 block of W. 20th Avenue regarding a female that was being assaulted by two males. Officers responded and after short foot chases were able to take two male parties into custody. The homeless female had met the males earlier that morning at the Colfax and Kendall Bus Stop, and went for a ride in one of their vehicles. The males stopped in the parking lot in the 5400 block of W. 20th Ave and attempted to steal her I-Pad. Both males struck the female during the course of the assault, although she was able to flee the vehicle and alert a passerby to call the police. The female was taken to an area hospital for multiple lacerations and bruises to her face and body. Lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on Assault and Robbery charges were a 23 year old homeless male and a 30 year old male from Hugo, CO that had just been released from the Department of Corrections a week earlier.
