From Edgewater Police Chief John Mackey:
On December 13, 2015 at about 10 PM Edgewater Officers were requested to assist Mountain View Police Department on a traffic stop of a silver Saturn at 44th & Yates St. While in route to the location officers were advised that gunshots had been exchanged between the driver of the Saturn and the Mountain View Officer. On scene, officers found that the driver of the Saturn was shot during the exchange, and the driver was transported to the hospital – investigation continues.
On December 10, 2015 at about 9:40 AM Edgewater Police received a credible report that a known former student of Jefferson High School with a history of violent crime was at 20th & Pierce Streets with a weapon and that he intended to cause harm to students. Officers immediately had area schools locked down while Edgewater, Lakewood and Mountain View officers searched the area. The person was taken into custody within five minutes of the call, and the schools were immediately reopened. The investigation revealed that the former student and family indicated that he had not owned or possessed any weapons in Colorado, and he indicated that he had no intention of hurting anyone.
Edgewater Officers responded to the 2800 Block of Ingalls St. this past week on an attempted auto theft. The victim’s 1995 White Honda had been forcibly entered, the steering column had been broken, although the battery had been disconnected which prevented the thieves from stealing the vehicle. Edgewater Officers will be teaming with the metro Auto Theft Task Force Detectives in the coming weeks in an effort to combat the problem of auto theft.
Traffic Enforcement: Officers have conducted traffic enforcement regularly throughout the city this past week. The officers contacted several drivers operating with revoked licenses, several registration violations, and speeding and careless driving violations.
In addition the following drivers were found to be driving under the influence the previous week.

25 year old male Denver resident.
26 year old male Denver resident.
31 year old female Denver resident.
42 year old male Lakewood resident.
47 year old female Denver resident.
Edgewater Officers arrested multiple persons for shoplifting this period:
28 year old male Denver resident.
44 year old male Arvada resident.
In addition, Officers responded to calls of possession of drugs, multiple intoxicated persons, vandalism, and violation of protection orders, warrant arrests, and a distribution of drugs at the high school.
Christmas Crusade for Children
Edgewater Officers will be participating in this joint effort with local law enforcement, KYGO radio as well as participating contributors in this annual event for children in need. Locally, a fun day to watch will be December 15th when Edgewater Officers join the procession of police vehicles from the Jefferson County Fair Grounds to the Walmart Store at Colfax and Wadsworth Blvd., arriving at about 9:45 AM. Santa will arrive at the store via helicopter, (landing about 9:45 AM) and our officers will be assisting Santa with the shopping of toys for children.
