On December 5, 2015 at about 9 PM Edgewater Police Corporal Nathan Geerdes contacted a suspicious vehicle in the Target parking lot with two males inside the vehicle. The vehicle was found to be an active steal, and there were two handguns in the vehicle. The Denver and Westminster residents were both arrested for the auto theft and the vehicle was towed and subsequently returned to its’ owner. Great job Corporal Geerdes!
On December 5, 2015, shortly after noon Edgewater Officer Challis responded to the 2200 block of Sheridan Blvd. on report of a Hit & Run Traffic Accident. On scene officers found that a Denver resident’s GMC pick-up had been damaged, although the driver was not injured. The driver provided the license plate number of the vehicle that had fled the scene, and Edgewater and Denver Officers were subsequently able to locate the suspect vehicle in Denver. Officer Challis arrested a 61 year old Denver resident for fleeing the scene of the accident – great job Officer Challis!
On December 4th, 2015 Officers took a report of a residential burglary in the 2400 block of Chase Street in which the homeowners were away on vacation. The burglars forcibly entered the residence, and appeared to have stolen several computers according to the neighbor who was watching the home. The owners will notify police of the exact items taken when they return home.
On November 28, 2015 Edgewater Officers took a fraudulent check report at El Colorado Tire and Wheel 2245 Sheridan Blvd. A local contractor purchased 12 tires valued at $2,200.00 although the check was subsequently found to be fraudulent. Edgewater Officers subsequently identified a suspect in the case and a warrant is pending – investigation continues.
Edgewater Officers responded to the Terra Village Apartments this past week on two auto theft reports. Both vehicles were left locked and unattended, although one of the owners also had his wallet, cash, laptop and stereo missing when the vehicle was located in Denver the next day. Edgewater Officers will be teaming with the metro Auto Theft Task Force Detectives in the coming weeks in an effort to combat the growing problem of auto theft.
Traffic Enforcement: Officers have conducted traffic enforcement regularly throughout the city this past week. The officers were concentrating on the primary arterial streets and new pavement zones. Officers located several drivers operating with revoked licenses, several registration violations, and a number of speeding and careless driving violations this past week. In addition the following drivers were found to be driving under the influence the previous week.

Edgewater Officers arrested multiple persons for Shoplifting this period:
18 year old male Loveland resident.
20 year old female Denver resident.
22 year old male Edgewater resident.
36 year old male Denver resident.
51 year old male Denver resident.
52 year old male Homeless person.
In addition, Officers responded to calls of possession of drugs, multiple intoxicated persons, warrant arrests, and a threat assessment at the high school.
Christmas Crusade for Children
Edgewater Officers will be participating in this joint effort with local law enforcement, KYGO radio as well as participating contributors in this annual event for children in need. Locally, a fun day to watch will be December 15th when Edgewater Officers join the procession of police vehicles from the Jefferson County Fair Grounds to the Walmart Store at Colfax and Wadsworth Blvd. Santa will arrive at the store via helicopter and our officers will be assisting Santa with the shopping of toys for children.
