Edgewater Police Report: February 12, 2016

From Edgewater Police Chief John Mackey:

Sgt.Hamilton and Corporal Geerdes followed up this week on the young man who fled from Corporal Geerdes on a traffic stop a couple of weeks ago and rammed into a Mountain View Patrol car. The officers arrested a 20 year old Arvada man who indicated that he fled the scene due to his license being suspended. Good follow-up Sgt. Hamilton and Corporal Geerdes!

Assistance Needed
On 2/10/2016 shortly after noon a Denver resident interrupted 3 males in the process of burglarizing his home in the 3500 block of Quitman St. At least one of the males were carrying a handgun during the crime, and the males fled when confronted by the homeowner in a white Pontiac Sunfire. Denver Police received reports of additional burglaries involving the Sunfire that same afternoon. At about 5:25PM Denver Police became involved in a pursuit of a white Pontiac Sunbird although they lost the vehicle in Denver after a short distance. Denver Police received a report of a Hit & Run automobile crash at 29th and Sheridan Blvd at about 5:30 PM involving a white Pontiac. At about 5:30 PM an Edgewater resident reported to dispatch and Edgewater Police that 6 males were running from a white vehicle with damage that they dumped in the 2400 block of Benton Street. Edgewater Officers quickly noted that the vehicle on Benton Street was an active steal and established a perimeter for the suspects although the 6 males had quickly disappeared in the area of 22nd and Benton Streets.

Neighbors are reminded that on 1/23/2016 at 3:11 AM Edgewater Officers attempted to make contact with a blue Prius in the 2200 block of Ames St. although the vehicle temporarily eluded officers for a short time and distance. During this short time period a neighbor located a handgun that had been dropped in the 2500 block of Benton St and notified Edgewater Officers.

Both of the above two incidents suspiciously involve the area around the 2000 block and 2100 block of Benton Street and potentially young men that reside in that area. The Edgewater Police Department and your fellow residents appreciate the diligence in which your neighbors have called our communications dispatch center to notify us of suspicious activity. Additionally we would encourage residents in the above mentioned areas of Benton Street to notify us if they observe any suspicious activity. These events are potentially very dangerous to anyone involved or in the area and we would very much like to address these crimes before they escalate further! As a reminder our Edgewater Police Officers are contacted via the Jefferson County Communications Center at 303-271-0211.
