Edgewater Police Report: February 22, 2016

From Edgewater Police Chief John Mackey:

On February 11, 2016 at about 7:50 AM Edgewater Officers received a report of a Hit & Run Crash at 20th and Sheridan Blvd. On scene the 30 year old Denver female reported that her vehicle was struck from behind while she was stopped facing southbound at the listed traffic light. The Denver driver pulled over at which point the driver of the crash vehicle pulled up to her and advised her that he did not have insurance and then drove away. The Denver driver advised officers of the run vehicle’s license plate and a very thorough description of the crash/run driver. Officer Palmer made multiple stops at several locations that were associated to the run vehicle and on February 13th he was able to make contact with the registered owner of the run vehicle in Wheat Ridge. Upon contacting the run vehicle owner, Officer Palmer noticed that the gentleman did not fit the description provided earlier. Further investigation indicated that the father of the vehicle owner had been using the vehicle at the time of the crash, and that the father’s description matched that provided earlier. The registered owner indicated that his father was homeless and was difficult to reach. Further investigation indicated that the father had five outstanding warrants for his arrest, with a sixth to becoming shortly due to Officer Palmer’s great follow-up. The follow-up was only possible due to the excellent observations by the 30 year old Denver driver! As of the date of this report Officer Palmer has been unable to locate the run driver and a warrant is pending – great job 30 year old driver and Officer Palmer!

Stolen Vehicles
2000 Block of Newland Street – 1996 Silver Acura Integra – stolen overnight while the vehicle was left in the street locked and unattended.
5200 Block of W. 25th – 1999 Cream Nissan Pathfinder – vehicle left running and unattended while victim went into get coffee at about 7AM. Vehicle recovered the next day by Denver Police – Unknown age Denver female arrested.

DUI’s
Edgewater Officers arrested 6 persons for DUI over this reporting period:
25 year old male Arvada resident.
27 year old male Arvada resident.
28 year old female Lakewood resident.
30 year old female Denver resident.
30 year old female Denver resident – also arrested for Child Abuse due to her three young children being in the vehicle with her.
55 year old female Wheat Ridge resident.

Shoplifting
Edgewater Officers arrested two persons for shoplifting this period:
30 year old male Denver resident.
35 year old male Edgewater resident.

Traffic Issues
Edgewater Officers performed traffic enforcement during the course of this reporting period and contacted several persons for red light violations, turn violations, following too closely, parking violations, abandoned vehicles, expired plates, fictitious plates, speeding, registration violations, suspensions, denials and revocations, and multiple traffic accidents and a hit & run.

Calls for Service
Edgewater Officers additionally responded to calls involving a death investigation, suspicious persons, disturbances, trespasses, barking dogs, thefts, mental health holds, unwanted persons, intoxicated persons, domestic violence, false reporting, assault, violation of protections order, child abuse, criminal mischief and multiple warrant arrests.
