On February 21, 2016 shortly after 3AM Edgewater Officer Young was monitoring traffic in the area of 26th and Sheridan Blvd. Officer Young observed a gray Dodge truck stopped on Sheridan Blvd. at the red light for 26th Avenue. Once the light turned green, the truck accelerated at a high rate of speed and the rear tires began spinning in place. Officer Young followed the vehicle and was eventually able to stop it in the 2000 block of Ames St. After the stop a male exited the vehicle and began running eastbound. Officer Young pursued the male and caught up to him on the west side of Sloan’s Lake where he was taken into custody. A 24 year old Arvada male was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail for DUI, and multiple traffic offenses. Good job Officer Young!

On February 19, 2016 at about 7:20 AM School Resource Officer McCallin was following up on a report from the Lumberg Elementary Principal and parents regarding a chronic poor driver. The principal, staff and parents all indicated that another parent at the school was regularly driving aggressively during drop off and pick up times, and had come close to hitting students on more than one occasion. A parent had asked the poor driving female to slow down although the poor driver began to yell at the parent and subsequently followed the parent home from school. Officer McCallin contacted the poor driver, although she yelled at the officer as well. The 26 year old Lakewood parent was found to be driving without a valid license, and she was subsequently issued a citation for harassment and the driving offense. Thank you school staff and parents for alerting us of this irresponsible driver and parent and good job Officer McCallin!
