Edgewater Police Report: 4/17/2016-4/24/2016

From Edgewater Police Chief John Mackey:

Good Timing

On April 22, at about 11AM Lakewood Police received a shots fired report involving a newer dark SUV in the 1600 block of Kendall St. Lakewood Police arrived in the area and located a similar vehicle and began pursuing it eastbound.

Edgewater Sgt. Lovato, School Resource Officer McCallin and Officer Challis were in the area of 17th and Eaton St when they overheard emergency police sirens coming toward them. A newer dark SUV turned onto 17th St. from Eaton St. while pursued by Lakewood Police, and both crooks and officers came to a stop quickly in front of Officer Challis and Edgewater Officers.

The driver was quickly arrested by SRO McCallin and Sgt. Lovato although the passenger jumped from the vehicle and began running southbound. The passenger was pursued by Officer Challis, and after a short foot pursuit the suspect was cornered and arrested at gunpoint, although the gun was not found on the suspect. A subsequent area search located the handgun that had been used previously and had been dropped during the foot pursuit. Both crooks were found to be juveniles from Lakewood and they were subsequently jailed on multiple offenses. Officer Challis, SRO McCallin, and Sgt. Lovato are to be commended for the apprehension and arrest of two dangerous persons whose actions imperiled the safety and welfare of our community.
