Edgewater Police Report from Chief John Mackey:

Suspect Vehicle – Lifted SUV

On 05/07/16 at about 10PM Officer Palmer contacted a resident in the 2200 block of Marshall St. The resident advised that his vehicle was broken into earlier in the evening in Denver. The resident while in Denver noticed the suspect leaving his vehicle although when he attempted to contact the suspect, the suspect pulled a knife, and then fled. The resident’s house keys, garage door opener, and registration were taken from his vehicle. The resident was unable to get a good description of the suspect. He stated the suspect entered a “lifted SUV” and fled.

Menacing with knife
On 5/7 at about 11 AM Officer Young responded to the Dunkin Donuts on report of a disturbance involving a man with a knife. Employees and customers advised Officer Young that a man had gotten into an argument over the price of a soda and “flashed a knife” when asked to leave, although the suspect immediately fled the store. Officer Young located the man a short distance away and took him into custody at gunpoint. The 51 year old homeless male was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on multiple charges. Thank you to our Dunkin Donuts employees for notifying us immediately via 911, and Officer Young’s quick response, pursuit, and arrest of the suspect – great job!

On 5/3 at about 1PM a lawn care employee had left his 2004 White Ford pick-up in the 5300 block of W. 17th unlocked and unattended with the keys in the visor while he completed a lawn project nearby. The lawn care employee observed two juvenile males steal his truck and notified police. Edgewater Officer Robenalt was able to track the vehicles’ GPS to the 1100 block of Ames Street and located the unattended vehicle. Jefferson High School Prom – Note received from Officer McCallin
I attended the Jefferson High School Prom last night as I have done for the past three years. This year the Prom was held at the Grant-Humphries Mansion in Denver. The Mansion is a Colorado Historical Site located on Governor’s Park and about 100 yards south east of the Governor’s Mansion. We were there from about 1900 hours until 2300 hours without incident. All of the students and the staff chaperones came dressed to impress and clearly everyone had a great time.

At the end of the Prom while the student and staff were cleaning up, I spoke with the Mansion’s Facility Manager. She told me that having High School Proms at the Mansion was something new for them. She said that the Mansion usually host weddings and professional events. The manager said that this is one of the first Proms that she has hosted at the Mansion and that she was impressed with the behavior of all the students. She said that all of the students that she interacted with conducted themselves like ladies and gentleman.

The success of this event is a clear reflection of the hard work and the leadership of the staff at Jefferson High school.

Neighbor’s notes and “Kudo’s” are placed in the lobby of the police station and placed in the respective officer’s personnel files – thanks for sharing!
