Edgewater Summer Parks and Recreation Activities

It looks like the weather has finally turned and it’s getting hot outside which means the first day of summer is right around the corner. June 20th to be exact. We hope everyone is enjoying their spring time with all of the activities going on.

As summer is upon us this means we have some new sports and programs coming around the corner here in Edgewater. Please check out www.playedgewater.com for a full description but here is your teaser.

Youth Sports

1) Youth Jr. Saint T-ball/Coach Pitch/Baseball
Registration Deadline: June 19
Start Date: July 6
Age Groups: 5-6, 7-9, 10-12
Cost: $25 for program + $10 for jersey if not already owned. Get into the swing of things by being a part of the City of Edgewater’s youth baseball program. Participants as young as five (5) years old, all the way up to the age of twelve (12) can learn and refine the necessary skills to fully enjoy America’s pastime. Age groups are divided into 5-6 year olds, 7-9 year olds, and 10-12 year olds. This is an eight (8) week program. Practices will take place on Wednesday evenings and games will take place on Saturday mornings.

2) Start Smart T-ball
Registration Deadline: July 10
Start Date: July 23
Age Groups: 3-5 years olds
Cost: $25
Start Smart was developed by the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) for children as young as 3 years old entering the world of organized sports. During a Start Smart session the children go to different stations with a parent where they practice exercises that help them develop motor skills and sport fundamentals to help prepare them for a smooth transition into organized sports in the future. This is a 6 week program with practices once a week on Saturday mornings.

Youth Camps

1) SkateStart SkateCamp
Registration Deadline: June 5 for session 1, July 17 for session 2, and July 24 for session 3
Start Date: Session 1 starts on June 13, Session 2 starts on July 26, Session 3 starts on August 2
Cost: $100
Skatestart is a brand new skateboarding program here in Edgewater. Skaters of all abilities will learn everything from the basics to dropping in on the big bowl. Other camp activities include skateboard proper technique and foot placement, fun games, and much more. Come and enjoy the fun filled day with Skatestart at Walker Branch Park. (Please bring helmet, athletic shoes, no open toed, water, and a snack.) Skatestart is a 3 day camp, for 3 hours a day, and skate boards are provided.

2) Skyhawks Sports Camps
Registration Deadline: June 26 or July 10
Start Date: Mini-Hawk program (soccer, baseball, basketball) July 5
Soccer program, July 18-21
Cost: $60
Skyhawks Sports Campes are designed to provide a wide variety of fun, safe, and positive programs that emphasize critical lessons in sports and life. For registration, please pick up a form at Edgewater City Hall (2401 Sheridan Blvd.) or call Skyhawks at 303-520-7345.

Youth Dance

1) Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet, Ballet
Registration Deadline: July 10
Start Date: July 18
Cost: $36
Creative Movement, Pre-ballet, and Ballet classes are for six (6) lessons each. Young dancers can expect to learn basic dance moves while improving their fine motor skills in a small class size to ensure proper personal attention.

2) Jr. Cheers, Cheers, Jr. Hip-Hop, Hip Hop
Registration Deadline: July 10
Start Date: July 22
Cost: $42
Join Dance Exploration for another session. The instructor/choreographer will use her passion to connect and influence young dancers of all abilities.

Youth Fitness

1) Yoga Kids
Registration Deadline: July 10
Start Date: July 21
Cost: $42
Yoga kids are for age groups 3-18. Yoga Kids and Tween Yoga classes will incorporate lessons in creativity, self-acceptance, interpersonal sklls, positive thinking, personal awareness, and most of all FUN!

Adults Sports

1) Co-ed & Men’s Fall Softball
Registration Deadline: July 4
Start Date: July 18
Cost: $400
The Fall season will run through mid-late October for an 8 week season of league play followed by a single elimination tournament. Team managers will need $200 down to hold your spot in the league. Full payment is due by the manager’s meeting a week before league play.
