Residential Burglary 

During a 24 hour period between 11/19 at 10AM and 11/20 at 10AM unknown suspect(s) entered an open side garage door in the 2500 block of Lamar St. and took several tools valued at over $1,000.

Habitual Traffic Offenders – Violent Offenders 

On 11/15 at about 8:45 PM Officer Slaven initiated a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle southbound in the 2200 block of Sheridan Blvd. Although the speeding vehicle made several evasive and unsafe lane changes the vehicle stopped in the 5200 block of 16th Ave. with the assistance of Corporal Nesbitt.

The driver was subsequently found with multiple protection orders prohibiting him from drinking which he clearly had been, and his license had been revoked previously for several DUI’s. The passenger in the vehicle was the driver’s brother and he had multiple warrants for Robbery and Assault. Both brothers, 25 and 27 year old Denver residents were lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

On 11/19 at about 1:55 AM Corporal Forsythe initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle which was weaving between lanes in the 2400 block of Sheridan Blvd. Upon contacting the driver, Corporal Nesbitt assisted and they found the driver extremely intoxicated. The driver had three prior DUI convictions, and thirteen active restraints on his license through 2021. The 31 year old Aurora male was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

Nextdoor and Neighborhood Watch 

Our Edgewater Police Department Volunteers are researching methods to increase our Neighborhood Watch participation and participation in Nextdoor Edgewater. Both of these programs allow us to communicate more efficiently with residents for civic events and crime prevention purposes. Please consider inviting your neighbors to participate in Nextdoor Edgewater and contacting our Neighborhood Watch Coordinator Lorenzo – volunteers@edgewaterpd.com to get more information on making your neighborhood safer.

Stolen Vehicles

On 11/13 between 9AM – 5PM an employee of King Soopers had her 1997 Blue Honda Accord stolen from the parking lot while it was left parked, locked and unattended.

Vehicle Break-Ins 

On 11/22 at about 2:50 AM a resident called dispatch and advised that three males were walking along her street in the 2000 block of Marshall St. Edgewater Officers responded to the area and located although the suspects had already fled. An unlocked vehicle was found with its glovebox open although the owner subsequently advised that nothing appeared to be missing.

DUI’s 

There were 7 DUI arrests this reporting period within Edgewater. Arrested for DUI:

23 year old male from Denver.
26 year-old male from Edgewater.
26 year-old female from Edgewater.
27 year old male from Denver.
28 year old male from Golden.
31 year old male from Denver.
32 year old male from Lakewood.

Year to date, Edgewater Officers have arrested about 177 persons for DUI.

Shoplifting  

Edgewater Officers received two reports of shoplifting at local stores this reporting period.
14 year old female from Lakewood.
21 year old male homeless person.

Traffic Issues 

Edgewater Officers performed about 79 traffic stops for traffic enforcement during this reporting period. Drivers were contacted for hit & run, speeding, careless driving, red light violations, turn violations, failing to signal, reckless driving, following too closely, parking violations, abandoned vehicles, weaving, expired plates, registration violations, suspensions, denials and revocations, and multiple traffic accidents and cited two persons for parking violations.

The radar trailer was located in the 2200 block of Kendall St. last week and will be located in the 1900 block of Depew St. this week.

Calls for Service

Edgewater Officers additionally responded to calls involving violation of protection orders, medical assists, trespassing, alarms, civil assists, noise complaints, criminal mischief, harassment, suspicious persons, disturbances, welfare checks, animals at large, neighbor disputes, barking dogs, welfare checks, juvenile problems, thefts, and unwanted persons, intoxicated persons, found property, domestic violence, assault, criminal mischiefs, and multiple warrant arrests. Edgewater Officers self-initiated and responded to about 225 various calls this reporting period including 7 Alarm Calls, 2 Welfare Checks and 8 Emergency 911 Calls – thank you neighbors for notifying our dispatch center at 303-271-0211 for the many calls and for our Edgewater Officers for their fine work during two very busy weeks!
