Edgewater Stories of 2017: Edgewater Loses a Saint

In the last few days of 2017, we are looking back at the top five Edgewater news stories of 2017. These new stories are based on page views and offer a look back at the past year. As our motto states, they also offer a view at “listen to the past, look to the future.”

In 2017, the most read post on the Edgewater Echo was:

Edgewater Loses a Saint

Longtime Edgewater resident Gina Hartley passed away on the morning of April 13, 2017 at the age of 54. A graduate of Jefferson High School and the owner of the Edgewater Coffee Company, Gina was a pillar of our community and her passion for Edgewater was contagious. Gina’s legacy continues through stories of her influence on those in the community and through the Gina Hartley Scholarship Fund for Jefferson graduates. In 2017, $10,000 in scholarships were given through Gina’s scholarship and another $10,000 will be given away for 2018 Jefferson graduates.

Gina was a key influence on the launch of the Edgewater Echo back in 2013. Our desire to tell the great stories of what was happening in Edgewater was inspired by Gina and her joyful attitude at the Edgewater Coffee Company.
