Thank You for Your Service to Edgewater: Corporal Mike Nesbitt

Corporal Mike Nesbitt

From Edgewater Police Chief John Mackey:

The Edgewater Police Department announces that Corporal Mike Nesbitt is leaving the department effective February 1, 2018 to take a job as a Police Officer with the Red Rocks Community College Police Department in Lakewood, starting February 5, 2018.

Mike served our community for the past five plus years in exemplary fashion with a passion for community policing activities, animal issues, neighborhood traffic enforcement, over 200 DUI arrests and a multitude of commendations, including commendations from Edgewater and neighboring Citizens, Attorney General Cynthia Coffman, Jefferson County DA Pete Weir, Arapahoe County DA George Brauchler, and Edgewater Police Chiefs John Mackey, John Hough and Mary Heller. One of our longtime residents, Teresa Sanchez summed up Mike’s personality best when she described him as a man who demonstrated the 3 C’s (Compassion, Concern and Caring) as best as one could. Additionally, Mike has a strong passion for animals and we received several commendations regarding pets; One local resident recalled an incident in which their yellow lab, Max had somehow crossed Sheridan Blvd. over to Sloan’s Lake. A passerby grabbed Max and passed him along to Corporal Nesbitt who tracked the owners down by utilizing PetLink, FaceBook and finally the YellowPages until he eventually brought Max home. The resident stated “I am amazed at the dedication shown by this officer for something as small as a lost pet. My husband and I are always aware of the danger policemen face daily by doing their duty and I am grateful that your department has always showed such courtesy when dealing with any insignificant trifle. It speaks volumes as to the officers’ characters in your department and just wanted you to know how much their effort is truly appreciated!

Residents will remember that Mike was pursuing a man at about 2AM on June 23,2017 for DUI when a fight ensued and Mike was assaulted and sustained serious respiratory injuries. Mike’s injuries involved cardiac arrest and he was initially on life support for several days and miraculously was able to recover and return to work with the Edgewater Police Department on September 11, 2017.

The Edgewater Police Family has been honored to have served alongside Corporal Mike Nesbitt for the past five years in service to our Edgewater Community, we salute your professionalism and dedication to duty and wish you, your wife Cortni and girls Kennedy and Grayson all the best!
