At tomorrow night’s Edgewater Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, one of the agenda items is a Site Development Plan for a proposed marijuana dispensary at 20th and Depew.
Native Roots is hoping to open at 5610 20th Avenue (20th and Depew) which was formerly Alpha Sign. This location is just south of Edgewater Elementary School and each day many students pass this location on their way to school. The federal government has been cracking down on dispensaries that are within 1000 feet of a school. This proposed dispensary is just over 700 ft from the school.
If Native Roots succeeds in opening, Edgewater will have six marijuana dispensaries.
The Planning and Zoning meeting is at 7 pm tomorrow (Wednesday) night in the Council Chambers at 2401 Sheridan Blvd.
Show up and give your input on this important decision before the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Just remember, PnZ does not make a ruling on the legitimacy of the business type that wants to move into the building. PnZ only rules on the merits of the SDP and if the build out follows all applicable laws and regulations. If you don’t want another pot shop, you can let Council know.
If you’re going to limit the number of dispensaries then you’d better start taking note of the number of active liquor licenses too. For a small area of town there seems to be a ridiculous number of liquor-serving establishments and liquor stores. it’s unreasonable to limit one and not the other.
