From Edgewater Police Chief John Hough:
On May 4, 2015, at about 12:30 AM, an officer on routine patrol noticed a vehicle stopped along the curb in the 5200 block of W. 25th Avenue. When the officer contacted the driver of the vehicle, he found him slumped over in the driver’s seat with the vehicle running. After the officer’s investigation, the driver, a 58-year-old male resident of Denver, was arrested and issued a Jefferson County Court summons for operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license and DUI.
On May 4, 2015, at about 6:15 AM, a 2002 Dodge Neon was stolen from in front of a residence in the 2600 block of Depew Street when the vehicle owner left the vehicle running for only a few minutes as she returned to her residence to retrieve an article she forgot. The vehicle owner observed the vehicle being driven from her residence occupied by two male suspects. As a reminder, please do not leave your vehicle running unoccupied, even for a short period of time, and always lock your vehicle to help prevent vehicle thefts.
Sometime between 10:15 PM on May 7, 2015 and 7:30 AM on May 8, 2015, a silver 1997 Honda Accord was stolen from an apartment parking lot in the 2600 block of Kendall Street.
On May 9, 2015, at about 2:05 AM, officers responded to the intersection of 17th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard regarding a hit and run traffic accident. The officers’ preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle southbound on Sheridan Boulevard at a high rate of speed collided into four parked vehicles in the area of 17th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard. The driver of the vehicle responsible for the traffic accident fled the scene on foot; however, based upon information obtained from witnesses and physical evidence, the officers were able to identify the driver of the hit and run vehicle. That driver, a 25-year-old male resident of Lakewood, was located, arrested and booked into Jefferson County Jail for criminal mischief, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident without identifying himself, failing to notify the police of the accident, theft, DUI and an outstanding “no bail” warrant issued by the Denver Police Department for assault and domestic violence.
