How did you get involved in this business?
After sharpening her design skills working on commercial and residential projects for a decade, Sara Blette’s desire to create and dream of owning her own business gave her the courage to take the leap and bring a passion to life. Finding pleasure in the simplicity and beauty of paper was easy for this avid writer, but finding the perfect book to collect all her musings, drawings and notes proved difficult. “There was a lack of high quality, eco-friendly, handmade notebooks on the market. I knew that there had to be others like me that were passionate about paper- and it really sparked something inside of me. Taking a chance, and doing something that I’d always been scared to do, really challenged me to believe in myself in a way that I’d never thought possible,” explained Blette. Starting small in her basement, she began dreaming up beautiful botanical designs and researching the best methods of production. Creating a 100% US sourced product that was as environmentally responsible as possible was her vision, and after doing her due diligence, she was able to achieve just that. Make My Notebook was born in the winter of 2007, and in just eight years, Sara’s built a loyal following of writers, illustrators, moms, creators and makers.
What drew you to open a business in Edgewater?
Edgewater is centrally located for our team members, the price was right and we were eager to be in a pedestrian friendly business district. We see so much foot traffic in our location, and that’s surely helped our sales and brand recognition.
What products do you offer?
Premium, hand silkscreened and spiral bound journals, sketchbooks and day planners are our signature products. We’re also about to launch a line of journaling ritual kits to improve memory keeping and create tradition.
What makes your business unique?
What’s truly unique about Make My Notebook is that each book is made to order based on the specifications of the buyer.
