Edgewater Police Report: September 14, 2015

From Edgewater Police Chief John Mackey:

On September 10, 2015 at about 7 AM a 32 year old Lakewood woman was traveling westbound on W. 26th Avenue in a silver Kia vehicle and initiated a left turn onto Harlan Street. The driver failed to yield while making a left turn and crashed into a 26 year old Wheat Ridge woman who was riding her bicycle in the bicycle lane eastbound on W. 26th Avenue commuting to work in Denver. The bicyclist was transported to the hospital with multiple injuries, and the driver who had been found to be talking on her cell phone at the time of the accident was cited for careless driving.

On September 10, 2015 at about 10 PM Edgewater Officers received a call from the store clerk at Live Green Cannabis, 2517 Sheridan Blvd. on report of an intoxicated man, and attempted theft. Officers contacted the clerk who advised them that a female customer had returned to his store complaining that an intoxicated man had attempted to steal her purse. The store clerk had escorted the woman to her vehicle, and subsequently noticed the man punching and kicking street signs, at which point he notified police. As the female had left prior to officers arriving we were not able to locate the victim of the attempted purse theft. The clerk advised that the woman is a regular customer and they will ask that she notify the police when they next see her. Officers took a 31 year old Denver man into custody, and lodged him in the Jefferson County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct.

On September 7, 2015 at about 3:40 AM Officers observed a motor scooter without any lighting traveling in the 5500 block of W. 17th Avenue. The Officers contacted the male driver who indicated that the scooter belonged to a friend known only by the friend’s first name. The Officers conducted a pat down of the person, at which point the man indicated that he had drugs on him, although he reported that both the drugs and the pants he was wearing also belonged to a friend. Officers subsequently located approximately 2 grams of meth-amphetamines in the man’s pocket. The 29 year old Wheat Ridge man was subsequently lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.

On September 6, 2015, just before 3 AM Edgewater Officers observed a black SUV traveling southbound in the 2500 block of Depew Street. The vehicle had extensive front end damage, and the officer could hear what sounded like something being dragged from underneath the vehicle. Officers began to follow the vehicle and observed what appeared to be the front bumper fall off of the vehicle, although the driver continued southbound. Officers initiated a traffic stop and contacted a male driver and female passenger. When Officers asked about the damaged vehicle, the passenger said that she had been driving along W. 38th Avenue in Denver and had driven off the road and struck an unknown object. The female said that she then changed drivers with her boyfriend and they continued driving towards their Lakewood home. Edgewater Officers informed Denver Police of the possible accident along W. 38th Avenue, although at the time of this report nothing further has been found. The 23 year old Lakewood resident was arrested for DUI and released to a responsible third party. Also arrested for DUI in separate incidents this reporting period were a 43 year old Denver female and a 44 year old Denver male.
