Court Conviction

On 5/21/2017 Edgewater Officers responded to a reported robbery at the Bellco Credit Union, which led to a SWAT call out, and a suspect was subsequently arrested.

On 6/6/2017 Leeroy Cervantes-Rodriguez was found guilty of one count of aggravated robbery-menace to a victim with a deadly weapon; which is a class 3 felony. He was remanded into custody on a $250,000 cash/surety bond and he will be sentenced July 10th.

Water Rescue

On 6/3 in the early morning hours Edgewater Officers assisted Lakeside and MountainView Officers on report of a man screaming for help near 43rd and Benton St. A short time later officers located the male inside the fence of the Lakeside Amusement Park, and when contacted he ran into the middle of Lake Rhoda. West Metro Fire’s Water Rescue team responded and assisted officers in contacting the distressed male. Edgewater Corporal Nesbitt and Mountain View Officer Toth had to enter the water after the male began fighting and biting firefighters. The male was found unclothed and he was subsequently arrested and transported to the hospital under the influence of drugs and will be receiving an assortment of charges to discuss with the judge.

Want to make your neighborhood safer?

The Edgewater Police Department’s Nextdoor Beat Cop Program was selected as one of the top 7 programs in the United States by the Nextdoor selection team for 2017. If you’re concerned about crime in your neighborhood there is no better free program available to us than Neighborhood Watch. Neighborhood Watch coordination is nothing more than getting to know your neighbors and passing along information that the police department provides to you about the calls for service in your specific neighborhood.

Please consider inviting your neighbors to participate in Nextdoor Edgewater and contacting our Neighborhood Watch Coordinator Lorenzo – volunteers@edgewaterpd.com  to get more information on Neighborhood Watch and making your neighborhood safer. Working together we can make a difference in deterring crime – thank you!

Nextdoor and Neighborhood Watch are Growing!

Our tremendous volunteer, Lorenzo Rendon has done an exceptional job in his first year as Neighborhood Watch Coordinator. Lorenzo has spoken to many of you and is arranging block meetings for this spring. As we begin to identify and sign our Neighborhood Watch Blocks, we will also begin the process of comparing crime statistics in Watch Blocks compared to all other blocks. The NW program has historically been extremely successful in deterring crime, and I’m certain it will do the same for Edgewater. Our Edgewater Police Department Volunteers are researching methods to increase our Neighborhood Watch participation and participation in Nextdoor Edgewater. Both of these programs allow us to communicate more efficiently with residents for civic events and crime prevention purposes. Please consider inviting your neighbors to participate in Nextdoor Edgewater and contacting our Neighborhood Watch Coordinator Lorenzo – volunteers@edgewaterpd.com  to get more information on making your neighborhood safer.

Thank You Notes from Neighbors – Kudo’s

I want to thank the officers who came to my home last month and decided to send me to Lutheran Hospital. At Lutheran they put me on oxygen and after three days sent me to a rehab center. I’m home now and on an oxygen tank instead of dead – thank you!

I want to thank Volunteer Frank Kyper for his outstanding work attending to all of the police vehicles damaged during the hailstorm. Frank has assisted with the insurance appraisal process, locating available vendors for maintenance and arranging for the repair of the damaged police vehicles. Frank is an outstanding volunteer for our city and provides countless volunteer hours to benefit the City of Edgewater. Thank you- I salute your efforts Frank! Chief Mackey

On May 31st. Edgewater’s Police Department’s DUI Team received the top DUI Team in the state award at the annual MADD Awards Banquet. Presenting the award and congratulations were Attorney General Cynthia Hoffman, District Attorney George Brauchler, and Newsperson Heidi Hemmat.

Thank you to our outstanding police volunteers, Frank Kyper, Lorenzo Rendon, Dave Suter, and Joel Newton for the countless hours they are contributing to making our community and city a safer place to live, work and play! Chief Mackey
