Sustainable Edgewater Seminar 15: Composting

From Xerxes Steirer:

Two of Edgewater’s Master Composters will talk about composting at this Tuesday’s Sustainability Seminar at the Edgewater Library from 7pm to 8pm. Debbie and Jason Bump are passionate local food advocates and have been growing their own food for over seven years on a “farmette” in Edgewater. The Bumps currently have a hoop house, a greenhouse, bee hives and chickens. The Bumps have had a worm condo in their kitchen for eight years and has recently expanded. They also have plots in both of Edgewater’s community gardens.

Debbie and Jason are Colorado Natives with Permaculture Design Certification from the Denver Permaculture Guild (DPG) and sell veggies at the Edgewater Farmer’s Market. Jason has interned and volunteered for Denver Urban Gardens (DUG), the Growhaus and Sprouts City Farms Community Supported Agriculture. Debbie has volunteered with LocalWorks harvest committee and the DPG events and fundraising committee. Currently, she is working with a group of community members, leaders and teachers to achieve more community and school involvement at the Jefferson Saints Community Garden (a DUG garden) for the 2018 season.

The Bumps have recently started a small business “Composting with the Bumps” where they pick up subscribing members compostables via bike and add it to the worm bins as well as compost piles helping the community divert organic matter from the landfill and send it back to the earth via the highest quality compost, vermicompost and compost teas.
