A license is required for all dogs over the age of 4 months in unincorporated Jefferson County or the cities of Arvada, Edgewater, Golden, Lakewood, Westminster or Wheat Ridge.
You may also voluntarily register cats and other pets. Licenses must be renewed each year.
Benefits
If you license your pet (new or renewal), you will receive a discounted microchip fee of $20!
Your pet licensing fee helps support Foothills Animal Shelter, where thousands of homeless pets are cared for each year.
Also, you can be contacted immediately if your missing pet is found. In many cases, our animal control partners bring your pet directly home.

FIREWORKS
Not only are fireworks illegal in Edgewater but fireworks, pets, and PTSD do not mix. Please don’t expect your pets to enjoy fireworks as much as you do. Fireworks are a source of high stress to your pets. Please keep your dogs or cats inside, safely away from noise during this 4th of July holiday.
Here in Edgewater we do have a long history and still maintain a good presence of a veteran population as well. Some with continual PTSD and we’ve even noticed signs posted in your yards about this to let people know to be respectful. For those who don’t know, PTSD is a scary thing and could pose a genuine threat to some PTSD suffers. Please be courteous of your combat veterans and enjoy the professionally done fireworks around the area, but do not bring the fireworks to Edgewater.
