This Saturday is bringing two community events to the Edgewater area and a chance to connect with neighbors. The day starts with the Edgewater 5k to support the athletic programs at Jefferson Junior/Senior High School. The race is organized by local education nonprofit Edgewater Collective. Race day registration and packet pickup start at 8 am at the Edgewater Elementary School parking lot (5570 W. 24th Ave.) and the race will begin at 9 am. Sections of westbound 25th Avenue and eastbound 22nd Avenue will be closed to traffic during the race. Find out more about the 5k at edgewater5k.com.
In the afternoon, come on down to Citizen’s Park (24th and Benton) at 3 pm for the Edgewater Community Picnic which is organized by the City of Edgewater. Edgewater Market and Music vendors will showcase their offerings and music will be playing on the park stage. Local food trucks Stupid Awesome Sandwiches and Farm to Truck will have food for purchase.
Edgewater Collective will be serving beer from Joyride Brewing Company at the beer garden. They will also be selling Edgewater tshirts and hats. The net proceeds from the beer and apparel sales will be going to classroom books at Edgewater Elementary and Lumberg Elementary.
Local schools, organizations and businesses will also have tables set up to interact with the community. Edgewater Police will have their radar machine available for children to see how hard they can throw a baseball. The City of Edgewater will be providing inflatables for children.
The grand finale for the Edgewater Community Picnic will be fireworks when it gets dark. Stay in town this weekend and come on down for these great community events!
