The opening of the Edgewater Public Market at 20th and Depew is coming soon so we thought it would be a great time to spotlight the businesses moving into the spaces.
Today we are talking to Kyle Knudson, the Co-Founder and Head Brewer at Barquentine Brewing Company!
How did you get involved in this business?
We’ve been homebrewing for over 10 years, which drove me to begin brewing commercially in 2014. Beer is such a fun topic because two people can have polarizing reactions to the same style. The way our brains decode the signals from our taste buds stir up amazing associations to our very different past experiences. We are excited to tinker with recipe and process and exchange these experiences with everyone who visits Barquentine!
What drew you to be part of the Edgewater Public Market?
We grew up in the area. In fact, our grandparents went to school in Edgewater. We love to see the community blossom and want to contribute to its growth. As an added bonus, we love to eat and can’t wait to pair our beers with the smorgasbord of options around the market.
What will you offer in your shop?
We’re drawn to the flavors of Belgian beer and the history and techniques of its creators. This is a major influence in our beer selections. Yeast-driven Abbey styles and saisons will be mainstays on the menu alongside rotating seasonal flavors. We’ve designed a barrel room for aging, souring and blending certain styles. As the brewery grows, look for vintage releases and vertical tastings in the taproom as well as a cooler full of bottle-conditioned selections.
What makes your business unique?
Barquentine Brewing Company has the privilege to be one of a selection of artisans in the Edgewater Public Market. We look forward to collaborating with our fellow merchants to curate a unique experience for our guests. This may include food pairings, release parties, music, events, community involvement and more so that visiting can be more than just grabbing a beer
Barquentine will be opening a little after the rest of the Edgewater Public Market businesses but we’ll keep you informed on when their Grand Opening will happen. For now, follow their website or Facebook page.
