From Hannah Beltrone, Edgewater HARP Board Member (Historical, Arts, Recreation and Parks):
The Edgewater Harvest Festival at the Orum House was a big success, bringing together local volunteers, businesses, and talent to celebrate one of the city’s historic treasures! We enjoyed a 2-hour set of music from The Edgewater Project; face painting from students at Gold Crown; local produce, flowers and herbs harvested from Edgewater gardens; beer from Joyride Brewing and Odell Brewing served by Edgewater Collective; and delicious food from Providence at 5280. Over a dozen volunteers from the HARP Board, the Sustainability Committee, Depew Street and other passionate residents made the event successful. We managed to keep our waste very low, generating only 2 grocery-sized bags of landfill waste. The rest was diverted into compost or recycling bins. Thanks to Eco-Products for donating compostable cups and to Marla Doughty for sponsoring and covering the cost of the compost pickup. We also had some impressively large produce, and awarded prizes for largest pumpkin, zucchini and carrot.
A special thanks to our Orum House Tour Guides: Dominique Skeehan, Kalah Hardt and Jamie Shapiro. We don’t have a final count yet, but we can confidently say we took close to 100 people on tours! A majority were first-time visitors, with some saying they had lived in Edgewater for years and never had the chance to see the Orum House.
