This week the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) released the graduation rates for the Class of 2019. The graduation rate for Jefferson Junior/Senior High School in Edgewater rose again to a new high in recent years. The four year graduation rate for Jefferson’s Class of 2019 was 84.3%. This beat the state’s graduation rate 81.1% and almost reached Jeffco Public School’s graduation rate of 85.3%.
Jefferson Junior/Senior High School Counselor Nathan Chamberlain explained the support available to students, “At Jefferson we work closely with each student to make sure their individual needs are met. Counselors do more than just check in with students, but work weekly with seniors to help them academically, emotionally and plan for their futures. Seniors are proud to be Saints and want to graduate as Saints.”
Jefferson Principal Michael James started his tenure as principal during the 2014-2015 school year and the large gains in the graduation rate have occurred during his leadership. Feeder elementary schools and their commitment to student growth also contributes to increased graduation rates at Jefferson. Just this past year, Lumberg Elementary School was rated a Performance school by CDE.
Congratulations to the students, families, teachers, staff and leaders at Jefferson Junior/Senior High School for their commitment to success for all students! Thanks also to the preschool and elementary school teachers, staff and school leaders at Edgewater, Lumberg and Molholm for helping students start the journey to graduation!
