From the Edgewater Police Department:
On Monday, December 14, the Store Director of Target Store T-2225, Caitlin Kopp, was looking for a place to re-home approximately $2,600 worth of their display Christmas trees. The trees were in good condition, but could not be used at the store any longer and they wanted them to go to good use, rather than being thrown away. Target employee Craig Westwood reached out to the Edgewater Police Department Sergeant Nathan Geerdes to ask for help in finding somewhere to donate the trees. Sergeant Geerdes contacted Joel Newton with the Edgewater Collective to ask for help in locating families in the Edgewater community who may be in need of a Christmas tree this season. Newton found local families who were grateful for the donated trees to brighten their homes right before Christmas. “This is the kind of stuff we as police officers love doing,” stated Sergeant Geerdes. “We don’t only want to be called when bad things are happening, but when people in the community can get together to make a positive change, or make someone’s day a little brighter.”
Joel has been a resident of Edgewater, Colorado with his family since 2012. He is the Executive Director of local education nonprofit Edgewater Collective and Editor of the Edgewater Echo.
