From Edgewater Pride:
In the month of June, there are many Pride events worldwide and Edgewater Pride is proud to carry on the tradition with its Second Annual Edgewater Pride Parade on June 5. The event celebrates lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary and queer (LGBTQ+) acceptance and pride.
The parade kicks off at 10:30 am at the Edgewater Civic Center (1800 Harlan St.) and meanders through the streets of the city before concluding at Edgewater Public Market (5505 W 20th Ave). Parade goers are encouraged to patronize businesses located in the market and throughout the city, many of which are offering Pride Parade specials.
The parade route will remain the same as last year’s event. A map of the parade route can be found at

This year’s Grand Marshall is Dominique Skeehan. She is a long-time Edgewater resident and has operated Head to Toe Massage for the past 26 years. She loves photography, just like her father, and was a stellar collegiate athlete playing basketball for Adams State University (ASU). She’s one of just three women’s basketball players in American Southwest Conference history to earn All-American honors, still holds numerous school records and was inducted into the ASU Hall of Fame in 2002.
“I was really surprised to be selected but feel loved and privileged to have been asked to represent Edgewater Pride Parade 2021,” said Skeehan. “I’m proud to be asked out of nowhere!”
Skeehan’s love of our small city inspired her to get involved in the community and serve on the History, Arts, Recreation and Parks Board advising, planning and promoting programs that highlight historic, artistic and cultural value.
“I take pride in our great city of Edgewater that is thoughtful, progressive and willing to help citizen inspired events, and proud to have such a cool community that made this happen last year during COVID-19 and again this year,” added Skeehan. “LGBTQ+ folks have more voice, progression and equality as times move on, but more is still needed for many people.”
Those wanting to participate in the parade can sign up at bit.ly/EdgewaterParadeSignup. This a motor vehicle/bike parade. Walking the route is prohibited.
The inspiration for Edgewater Pride and the Edgewater Pride Parade blossomed last year from a conversation among a few Edgewater neighbors. The group not only wanted an event to celebrate LGBTQ+ acceptance and pride, they also wanted it to be Edgewater centric.
“Last year’s parade was so well received by everyone in our community, we knew we had to make it an annual event,” said Annelise Shipley of Edgewater Pride. “We are proud to once again celebrate LGBTQ+ acceptance and pride in our close-knit Edgewater community and hope everyone joins us on June 5.”
