Throwback Thursday: Edgewater’s Kill the Cloud Campaign from the 1970s

As Denver has endured another week of Air Quality Alerts, community members are taking steps to slow the impacts of climate change. Back in 1978, Edgewater community members took steps to “kill the cloud” in the Denver area and lower air pollution. City Councilwoman Norma Daly (pictured above on the left) came up with the idea to encourage community members to not drive on a certain day of the week. Former Edgewater Mayor Bonnie Allison (pictured above in the middle) commented that Colorado Governor Richard Lamm loved the idea.

Sadly, Norma Daly and her husband Keith passed away in the last year. Former Edgewater Mayor Bonnie Allison remembers their service to Edgewater, “Keith and Norma both served on the city council at various times, Norma serving as council president and Mayor Protem.  Keith served as council member, and then Mayor.  Keith was a retired volunteer fireman, having been the chief of that organization as well.  Together, the Daly’s gave more than 30 years to Edgewater residents, an accomplishment not often repeated.”

Thanks to Mayor Allison for passing on this information on our community’s history and those that invested deeply in it over the years.
