Since the late 1970s, Edgewater Elementary School has been a leader in bilingual and bicultural education in Jeffco Public Schools. In the fall of 1976, Edgewater launched the first bilingual program in Jeffco Public Schools because of the number of dominant Spanish-speaking students enrolled in the school.
Over the last couple of years, Edgewater Elementary School has taken the next steps to create more innovative pathways for dominant English-speaking students to become bilingual and bicultural in English and Spanish. Students who complete the program at Edgewater Elementary, and continue on to Jefferson Junior/Senior High School, can graduate high school with the Seal of Biliteracy.
Edgewater Elementary offers a Two-Way Dual Language program from preschool to 2nd grade and will expand to 3rd grade next school year. Both dominant Spanish-speaking students and dominant English-speaking students in the Two-Way Dual Language program receive 50% of their instruction in Spanish and 50% in English.
Edgewater Elementary School is offering school tours to give families an opportunity to learn about the program and observe instruction in the classroom.
