Could there be a more fitting anthem for modern life than David Bowie and Queen’s enduring classic, “Under Pressure”?
I know I don’t even need to list all the things that leave us feeling under pressure but let’s just agree… it’s A LOT OF THINGS!
And did you know that your furry best friend feels it too? Unlike humans, though, dogs can’t escape with mindless Instagram scrolling, an extra margarita, or a Netflix binge (come to think of it, maybe there are better options for us, too).
So what’s a dog (and her human) to do? Decompression walks are the answer.
What is a Decompression Walk?
It’s a walk where a dog is free to move, sniff, explore, and just generally be a dog doing dog things.
A decompression walk is different from your daily walks (Which are important! Keep doing them!), as it is time off-leash (or on a very long leash if necessary) for your dog to express his natural instincts for hunting & exploring. Just pure, uninhibited doggy-ness in nature. Their antidote to “Under Pressure”
The Benefits of Decompression Walks
The top 3 benefits of decompression walks (for dogs AND their humans!):
- Reduces Anxiety and Stress
When you give your dog uninhibited time in nature, she exercises her body, her mind, and all her senses. This leaves her tired, peaceful, and mentally restored (I’m pretty sure that’s how you’ll feel, too). - Builds Confidence
For dogs and humans alike, there is no better way to build confidence than facing challenges and overcoming them. Decompression walks provide ample opportunities for dogs to problem-solve as they interact with nature. They’ll come home walking just a little bit taller… or they would if they weren’t so tired. - It’s Basically Relationship Therapy
Most of us aren’t that fun to be around when we’re under pressure, and neither are our dogs. Go on a decompression walk and watch how much more you enjoy each other afterward. Free family therapy for you and your pup.
It’s time for you and your dog to get out from under the pressure. Happy decompressing!
