From Jamming on the Jetty:
On Saturday, September 17 from 2-7PM, the 6th annual “Jamming on the Jetty” music festival will take place at the Sloan’s Lake Boat House and Jetty on the north side of the park (Byron Place & Utica). This year’s jam-fest, sponsored by Porchlight Realty and dozens of other concerned community members, is more than just a kick-up your-heels and hang-out-to-music event, but instead, it is a community fundraiser hosted by the Sloan’s Lake Park Foundation (SLPF) whose mission is to help #SaveSloansLake. Glenn Witman, Chairman of the SLPF board notes, “We want to activate the lake through beautification projects, monthly clean-ups, and educational forums that will engage our community to protect and defend one of the most beautiful natural assets in North Denver.”
The SLPF board wants to bring back the days when swimmers frolicked in the lake, an amusement park graced her shore, and competitive water-skiing was a regular event. Once upon a time, in the not-too-distant past, the lake was 18-20’ deep; it is now an average of 3 feet. It takes a village to bring about a change of this magnitude, but concerned neighbors, both old-time Sloan’s Lake residents, and newbies alike are taking up the challenge!
It never hurts to donate a bit when a FREE family-friendly event includes yoga, live bands, a kids sing-along, and a kids zone. Plus barrels of beer, cocktails, margaritas, and food trucks including el Camino, Barquentine Brewery, Infinite Monkey Theorem, The Block Distillery, Billy’s Gourmet Dogs, Turkish Chef on Wheels, Phatty Boom Food Truck, and Little Man Ice Cream.
Three bands will fill the air with the sound of music. 9-Piece Swing Big Band, Bianca Herbert & The Flyboys kick off the event, followed by Dzirae Gold’s 6-Piece Soul Band. The event culminates with headliners, 2MX2, a riveting 6-piece Latinx AlterNative Pop-Hip Hop band that honors both Latin Heritage Month and the “roots” of the Hispanic community surrounding Sloan’s Lake.
