City of Edgewater: Bag Fees Coming in 2023

From the City of Edgewater:

Did you know that Coloradans are estimated to use over 4 million single-use plastic bags every single day? These bags are made from non-renewable resources, can only be recycled at approved locations such as Target and King Soopers, and will likely end up in your garbage or the landfill.

A new Colorado Law is requiring a $0.10/bag single-use bag fee to be charged at large retailers across the state beginning on January 1, 2023.

Save on bag fees and help save the planet when you bring your own reusable bags to shop in Edgewater and around Colorado!

Colorado Plastic Pollution Reduction Act

  • January 1, 2023: Retail businesses with more than three locations in Colorado are required to charge a 10-cent fee on single-use plastic and paper bags at the point of sale.
  • January 1, 2024: Colorado law will ban single-use plastic bags at large stores and expanded polystyrene foam takeout containers (more commonly known as Styrofoam™) at restaurants.

Tips for Remembering Your Bags When You Go Out

  • Write “Bring Bags” at the top of your grocery list and put your bags with your list
  • Post a reminder note by your door
  • Hang your bags by your door or put them back in your car or bike basket as soon as you clean and empty them out.
  • Store or clip an extra bag in your purse or backpack
  • Keep a spare bag or two at your work and/or in your vehicle
  • If you regularly shop on a set day of the week, put a reminder to bring bags in your phone or on your calendar.
