School Enrollment Opens for the 2023-2024 School Year

The decision on where to send our children to school is a big one. We want the best for our children and education is a large part of their development. This past Tuesday, December 6, Jeffco Public Schools opened their school enrollment process for the 2023-2024 school year. As you consider where to send your children, we encourage you to look at enrolling them in their neighborhood Edgewater school.

Edgewater is home to three schools. Edgewater Elementary School features a two-way dual language program where students can learn in both English and Spanish. Lumberg Elementary features an Expeditionary Learning program where all students have the opportunity to expeditionize their learning through field trips and community service projects. Jefferson Junior/Senior High School ensures a quality, inclusive education that equips all students with the knowledge and necessary skills to become successful contributors to local and global society.

Families can learn more about Edgewater’s schools and opportunities to visit at jeffersonsuccess.org.

Taking a risk on long-term underperforming neighborhood schools isn’t right for every family. In addition to open enrollment options within the Jeffco district, Edgewater families should also know they have options to apply for enrollment in ANY Colorado public school. This includes the surrounding districts as well as CSI-authorized (State) tuition-free public charter schools. There are amazing free schools that will fit every family’s preferences.

There are also amazing private schools. One such private school, Augustine Classical School is right in Edgewater.

Families seeking a classical education that can’t afford private school tuition can also look at Golden View Classical Academy K-12 in Golden, which is a closer drive than you might think, and is a tuition-free CSI-authorized public charter. Jeffco also runs a high-performing option school called Dennison (K-6) that is a very short drive from Edgewater.

All public-funded schools use a lottery system for choice/open admissions so your family has the same opportunity as other families.

If you decide that taking a risk on Edgewater’s “neighborhood” schools is not right for your family, you should apply to several alternatives because there are always many more applicants than openings at the top schools.

Get started now! Open enrollment generally ends in early January across the state.
