From Edgewater Mayor Beltrone, City Council and City Staff:
In recent weeks, the Metro area has seen hundreds of migrant and asylum seekers arrive without any plans for shelter or basic needs. This trend is expected to continue in the short-term and is straining regional resources to care for these people. The City of Edgewater recognizes this as an unprecedented crisis, especially with sub-zero temperatures forecasted. I encourage anyone who would like to volunteer or donate to join us in responding. Together, we can make a difference.
The City of Edgewater will have a clothing donation drop at the Edgewater Civic Center (1800 Harlan Street). All donated clothing materials collected will be taken to the Denver donation drop site on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week (December 20 and 21). Below is a list of items urgently needed. Please note, this list is subject to change based on supply and demand. IMMEDIATE needs are men’s shoes/boots size 7 – 10, undergarments (underwear and socks for both men and women (sizes small and medium), and backpacks/totes), along with a need for winter weather clothing (jackets and coats, sizes small and medium).
- Men’s pants (waist 30 – 33 or size Small and Medium)
- New socks and underwear (both men’s and women’s)
- Winter apparel (hats, gloves, scarves, boots size 5 – 7 for women and 7 – 10 for men)
- Children’s clothing for ages 10 and under
- Backpacks and totes (useable grocery bags)
