POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER
From the City of Edgewater:
Join the History Arts Recreation and Parks (HARP) Board to celebrate the reveal of the newest piece of art in Edgewater! The bridge mural has been a multi-year endeavor that has finally become a reality. The celebration will include remarks from the Mayor, HARP Board and Galen Shoe along with pizza and an artist signing.
A few years ago, students at Jefferson Junior/Senior High School held a competition for art to inspire murals to be placed on a City bridge. Five (5) winning designs were chosen, but with COVID the project paused. The objective now, with time having passed, is to honor those students by having a local artist draw inspiration from the themes and ideas in their work.
In the Fall of 2022, the City of Edgewater issued a Call for Art in which local artists could submit entries to complete murals on two (2) sides of a prominent City bridge located on Harlan Street between 18th and 20th Avenues. The murals were to be inspired by art from those students at Jefferson Junior/Senior High School, as well as themes from the community.
As the most responsive bidder to the Call for Art, the Harlan Street Bridge Mural Project was awarded to Galen Shoe with the Gold Crown Foundation. Along with the help of high school seniors enrolled in the Gold Crown Clubhouse Program, (Tshebia Hall, Silas Gomez, Damien Martinez and Jeffery Garcia) the mural has been installed during the spring of 2023.
Please join us to celebrate this beautiful piece of work!
