From Edgewater City Manager Dan Maples:
The City of Edgewater City Council and City Manager Dan Maples are pleased to announce that Commander Melanie Thornton of the Arvada Police Department has agreed to serve as our Interim Police Chief until a permanent selection is made.
Commander Thornton brings over 28 years of extensive experience in all major areas of law enforcement, with the last 23 years dedicated to serving the City of Arvada. She holds both a Master’s and Doctorate degree in Psychology, with a specialized focus on Employee Wellness.
Currently, Commander Thornton oversees the Investigations Division for Arvada. We are grateful to Chief Brady for allowing us to benefit from her expertise for the next few months. Commander Thornton will begin her role with us on Monday, November 25th, and officially assume the position of Interim Chief on December 2nd.
Additionally, the City Manager is seeking a diverse group of Edgewater residents to participate in the selection process of the next Edgewater Police Chief through a Community Panel. This panel will:
- Review the community recruitment survey,
- Serve on an interview panel,
- Organize community meet-and-greets with candidates.
The Community Panel will hold six one-hour meetings from November through March. Interpretation services will be available. Interested residents can fill out the interest form (https://forms.office.com/r/kFnT0E3w8j) or email CommunityInput@edgewaterco.com.
We are confident that Commander Thornton’s leadership and experience will be invaluable during this transition period.
