The City of Edgewater and Business on the Edge held a logo contest for the newly redesigned Edgewater Market and Music, or as it was formerly known, the Edgewater Farmer’s Market. Edgewater resident and artist, Todd Nieber’s design was chosen as the winning entry. Here’s an interview with Todd and a description of the elements within the winning logo design.
Tell us a little bit about yourself
I am a graphic designer from the East Coast but my family and I now call Colorado home. I grew up in Upstate New York in a small town called Corning. I got my degree in Mass Communications and Design at Virginia Commonwealth University and it is also where I met my wife. We moved out to Colorado 6 years ago and have lived in Edgewater for about 3 years now. I have been in the design and digital media world for almost 10 years now but have always been passionate about art and creative thinking. I run my own design studio here in Edgewater called MTN Creative with my amazing wife – you can find out more about my services here: www.coroflot.com/toddnieber. When I’m not behind the computer I’m usually illustrating something in my sketch book, playing soccer, hiking with my wife and my one year old boy, biking, brewing beer and snowboarding when the weather is right!
What drew you to Edgewater?
When we were looking for our first house we knew we wanted a house with character and a neighborhood that was relaxing and a great place to raise our little family. We didn’t know much about Edgewater at first but became very fond of it after a few visits to Providence Tavern, driving through the area and walking through the parks. And being so close to Sloans Lake, it just seemed perfect. We are only seeing positive growth here and are so excited to be part of that growth and contribute to an energetic community. We have definitely found our place here in beautiful Colorado.

I wanted to pay a bit of an homage to the Edgewater entrance sign on 25th & Sheridan and then intertwining market and music as a unique symbol below the sign. It’s all balanced on the foundation of the Colorado “C” from the flag. Mountains and water were essential to this design but I didn’t want that piece to be too overwhelming but a nice touch. The headstock is created with the mountains on top and the water flowing through, making up the tuning keys while also forming the shape of an E in the middle. The banjo is finished off with the sliced tomato as the head of the instrument. I think those two pieces represent our market very well and being held together by the Edgewater banner just brings it all home. The colors resemble freshness and vitality, having a natural and agricultural feeling and be able to represent not just Edgewater but also the great vendors that will be offering their goods and the talented musicians performing at the market. I am so pleased to have been able to create this logo for our city. It is a great honor to have been chosen, thank you!
The Edgewater Market and Music will start on Thursday, June 30 from 5-8 pm on 25th Avenue between Ames Street and Sheridan Boulevard. It will occur every Thursday night through September 8.
