Edgewater Police Report: September 8, 2015

From Edgewater Police Chief John Mackey:

On August 28, 2015 at about midnight Edgewater officers were patrolling the Edgewater Marketplace near the Target Store, and observed an individual underneath the bridge between King Soopers and the Target parking lot. Upon contacting the person, the officer found that the person had been huffing computer dust, and found fourteen empty cans of computer dust on the ground. The person said that he had been huffing computer dust all day; for a short while he was huffing with another friend, although the friend had left earlier in the evening. Paramedics responded to the scene and subsequently checked the person’s vital signs, and released him back to officers.

The 27 year old Edgewater man was transported and lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on a Wheat Ridge Warrant related to abusing toxic vapors, and he was issued a trespassing notice for the Edgewater Marketplace and a municipal summons for the abuse of toxic vapors.

On August 28, 2015 at about 3 AM Edgewater officers contacted a Golden resident sleeping in Walker-Branch Park. The person was found to have three active warrants out of Jefferson County for failing to appear in court on charges of Shoplifting, Criminal Mischief, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. The 25 year old Golden female was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on the three listed warrants. Another similar violation occurred this reporting period in which a Denver resident was issued a summons for camping prohibited.

On August 28, 2015 at about 5:40 PM officers received a report from Sally’s Beauty Supply, 1931 Sheridan Blvd of suspicious persons who had entered the store. The store clerk advised dispatchers that the persons appeared to be under the influence of drugs, although the persons exited the store and drove away in their vehicle prior to officers arriving on scene. Officers received a description of the vehicle fleeing the scene and were able to stop the vehicle at Ames Street and W. 22nd Avenue. Officers contacted the occupants of the vehicle and found several hypodermic syringes in the passenger seat area of the vehicle. The passenger, a Firestone resident was arrested on a violation of the Municipal Code for Possession of Injection Devices.

On August 29, 2015 at about 1 PM Edgewater officers were dispatched to J & J Liquors, 1711 Sheridan Blvd on report of a shoplifting. While in route to the call the clerk reported that the suspect had fled the store in a white Mitsubishi bearing Colorado temporary tags. Officers queried the license plate and found that it registered to a residence in Lakewood. Officers responded to the Lakewood address and contacted two residents at the home. A 27 year old male subsequently admitted to stealing a bottle of Jagermeister liquor and returned it to the officer. The 27 year old Lakewood resident was issued a Municipal citation for shoplifting and the liquor was returned to the store clerk. A similar shoplifting arrest occurred at the Target Store this reporting period in which a 30 year old Lakewood woman was cited into Municipal Court.

On September 2, 2015 at about 11:15 AM Edgewater officers received a report from Lumberg Elementary School regarding a student who was fighting with school staff and school security and destroying various classrooms. The student was physically abusive to staff and had attempted to bite staff upon contact. The student’s family was contacted and the student was transferred to Children’s Hospital for further evaluation.

During the Labor Day Weekend, Edgewater Officers worked on a special DUI Enforcement Team supported by the Colorado Department of Transportation and the Colorado State Patrol. Officers arrested 8 DUI drivers within the City of Edgewater over the course of the weekend including one driver involved in a non-injury DUI traffic accident.
