Growing up in small town Indiana, one of my favorite memories was visiting the local barber shop. It was the conversation spot in town to hear about the high school basketball team, how the crops were coming along and local rumors. Gary the Barber would talk to everyone in the shop and the smell was of fresh shaving cream.
I finally found that same experience at Edgewater Barber Shop which is located at 5687 West 24th Avenue. Barbers John and Dan have run Edgewater Barber Shop for 23 years since they purchased it from community pillar Bert Hogan.
Old westerns are usually playing on the tube TV in the corner and conversations cover local happenings and updates from customers who seem to have been coming there for years. For those who miss the good old days when people knew their neighbors and small business owners knew all their customers, this is the place for you.
Haircuts are excellent as John and Dan are masters of the scissors instead of the electric clippers. And to finish it off in the classic way, they use shaving cream to clean up the neckline.
All transactions are in cash only (no checks or credit cards). Haircuts are $13 and beard trims are $5. Hours are Tuesday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm and Saturdays 9 am to 4 pm.
Go check them out when you need your next haircut and support a great Edgewater business!
