At the January 4, 2018 Edgewater City Council meeting, Councilor Kara Swanson resigned from City Council. At the February 1 City Council meeting, Council moved to fill the vacancy by appointment. Here is the notice of the Council vacancy that was posted at various public posting locations around Edgewater and on the City website.

NOTICE OF COUNCIL VACANCY
NOTICE is hereby given that a vacancy exists on City Council. Council will fill this vacancy by appointment. The term of the vacant Council position shall last only until the next regular Municipal Election in November, 2019. The legislative affairs of the City are vested in the City Council consisting of seven (7) Council Members plus the Mayor. The Council meets regularly at the City Hall at least once a month and usually twice a month. Council meetings are held on Thursday evenings.
Qualifications for the applicant at the time of appointment are as follows:
- Is a citizen of the United States.
- Is at least twenty-three (23) years of age.
- Is a registered elector.
- Has been, for one year immediately preceding such appointment, a resident of the City.
- No conviction for embezzlement, bribery, solicitation of bribery, perjury, subornation of perjury, or any offense involving fraud.
