Good News: EPD Corporal Young Helps Transform a Life

From Edgewater Police Department:

On 7/16/18, Corporal Young and I were eating at Chick-Fil-A and as we walked out a gentleman approached us in the parking lot and specifically wanted to speak to Cpl. Young. This man wanted to thank Cpl. Young for being fair and respectful to him when he arrested him for DUI/DUI Per Se on CR# 15-03079 on 12/26/15. This male further explained that on 1/15/16 (CR 16-0122) Cpl. Young and Cpl. Palmer were there when he was called into dispatch as an attempted suicide by cutting himself and holding a knife to his throat. He talked about how fair and helpful Cpl. Young and other EPD officers were that night and helped him by putting him on an M-1 hold at the hospital. This man said he was living with people who were bad influences on him and got him to start using cocaine. He said he was able to get the help he needed and no longer uses drugs and got out of the bad situation. He explained that his life was going very well and owed a lot to Cpl. Young. The male now works (at a nearby restaurant). It was impressive to see how thankful this man was of Cpl. Young and how he had such a positive interaction with the police. It is not often that we get to see the fruits of our labor and let alone being thanked for doing our job so that is why I wanted to share this story. Cpl. Young is commended for the professionalism he showed and for the compassion he showed this man.

Thanks, Nate
