From Xerxes Steirer:
Around the world, only 14% of plastic packaging gets collected for recycling. If we keep on this path, by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. Facts like these clearly make the case for changing our approach to wasteful packaging. Drive-thru restaurants and single-use cups at events like concerts and sports games are likely to be a reality for quite some time. However, if we rethink where packaging comes from and where it ends up, single use packaging can actually be an essential part of a Zero Waste future. Sarah Martinez will speak at this month’s Edgewater Sustainability Seminar about the need to redesign packaging and the role it can play in waste diversion for food service operators.
Edgewater resident, Sarah Martinez is Director of Marketing for Eco-Products, where she is responsible for developing and promoting an authentic, mission-centric brand that is working towards a Zero Waste future by redefining single-use foodservice packaging. Sarah also serves on the board of the US Composting Council. Her prior sustainability work includes, Eco-Products’ Sustainability Maven, Sustainability Manager for Target, and Sustainability efforts lead for the global real estate firm, Prologis.
The Edgewater Sustainability Seminar is held at the Edgewater Library at 25th and Gray. Seminars are regularly on the third Tuesday of each month throughout 2018 starting at 7pm.
