Thank You for Your Service to Edgewater: Felica Goett

In a small town like ours there are public servants who seek the good of our community and we love to spotlight them. This month brings the end of Felica Goett’s service to the Edgewater community as part of Jewish Family Services and Colorado Senior Connections.

Colorado Senior Connections is focused on offering comprehensive services to seniors in the Edgewater and Wheat Ridge communities that are aging in place. According to Felica, “Due to funding, our program has been required to halt operations with hopes that Jewish Family Service will be able to obtain the necessary funding needed to get the program running again.”

We are sad to see Felica transition from her role with Colorado Senior Connections and wanted to give her a chance reflect on her time in Edgewater.

1. What did I enjoy most about serving with Jewish Family Services in Edgewater?

The ability to truly participate in the community I was serving and not just being a warm body that “did stuff”. Being a part of such an amazing community with its people, its culture, its friendliness and genuine feel made it easy for me to do my job well, every day.

2. What will you miss about Edgewater?

Everything… and I mean that. BUT! I will be sticking around for the next month or so helping the City prepare for the Civic Center’s opening and getting portions of programming, specific to the older adults of Edgewater, ready for the future! Come by and say hi!

3. Any advice to younger folks moving into Edgewater on how to honor those who have lived here for years?

Be open to opportunity to engage and don’t hesitate to include them in your daily lives. YOU WILL LEARN A LOT…. No matter how old you are. They truly know the in’s and out’s. And in a community like Edgewater, it is a golden opportunity to have so much history at your fingertips through their long lives of living here. Be cognizant of your elder neighbors… take 10 minutes to check on them. Bring them a snack or treat and make sure they are doing well. Let them know you really care and that you are happy to help when they need it. Honor their viewpoints and opinions. It might actually surprise you that they have a voice, want to share it and have value. They really are the ones that made Edgewater what it is today…

4. Any other thoughts or comments?

Thank you to everyone in Edgewater who supported me and my program and the older folks of Edgewater over the last five and half years. I am humble to have been a part of it and there are a lot of you out there that played vital rolls in our success over the years. Remember to be good to your neighbors and help each other out. Engage with each other, from all ranges of the spectrum. Don’t forget…. Giving back to your community actually helps more than just the folks you serve. It also helps you become a stronger, kinder, soul.
