From Edgewater Police Chief John Mackey:
At 1:09 PM Edgewater Officers responded to the Target Store on report of a man wearing a suicide type bomb vest.
Officers learned that the man had entered the store wearing a sports jersey and when he approached the customer service counter he took off his jersey and displayed a camouflage vest and told customers he was going to “blow the place up”. A customer immediately fled the store and dialed 911.
Officers evacuated the store and were able to locate the man and take him into custody. They later learned that the camouflaged vest did not contain explosives. Jefferson County Deputies and the Denver PD K-9 Team assisted in the evacuation and search and locate of the suspects vehicle. A 43 year old Wheat Ridge man was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail for the associated felony crimes.
Thank you to our quick thinking neighbor who dialed 911 and for the assistance of both the Jefferson County SO and Denver PD.
