Cory Reid-Vanas Announces His Re-Election Campaign For Edgewater City Council

From Cory Reid-Vanas:

Dear Neighbor,

I am writing to let you know that I will be running for re-election to Edgewater’s City Council in November 2019.

It has been an honor to serve on Edgewater’s City Council since January of 2018. As a resident of Edgewater for over 7 years, I have come to love our city and value the relationships I have built through being a neighbor and representative through my role as a Councilmember.

You can expect me as your Councilmember to advocate for:

  1. Developing and maintaining our infrastructure;
  2. Fostering an environment that empowers small and local business;
  3. Enabling homeowners to update their homes with ease;
  4. Enhancing community engagement, safety and equity; and
  5. Ensuring fiscal responsibility and sustainability.

If you would like to learn more about me, please email me and I will be happy to schedule a time to visit you at your home or meet for a cup of coffee. If you are interested in supporting my campaign, please email me and I will follow up with you regarding ways that you can help.

Please consider voting Cory Reid-Vanas for Edgewater’s City Council. I commit to representing all voices in our community and making decisions that consider all sides.  I am dedicated to Edgewater’s continued growth and prosperity.

As we all know, Edgewater is a wonderful place to live and we are in a period of great growth. This creates challenges and opportunities and I take the responsibility of collaborating with the community seriously around such growth.  We want to be thoughtful about the decisions we make now, in order to ensure that Edgewater retains the qualities we all enjoy and the reasons we choose to live here.

Edgewater is strong! Edgewater’s advancement, fiscal stability and community engagement is evident.  With the opening this past year of our new civic center, all that dirt moving around at 20th and Depew and the revitalization of other commercial properties yet to come, our future looks bright.

When I decided to run for City Council two years ago, my motivation was to increase my civic engagement and be a representative voice for all in our community, specifically in Edgewater and Jefferson County. As a small business owner and mental health professional, I have committed my career to supporting our community’s overall health. In my role as a Councilmember, I have expanded this sentiment and apply my experiences and lens to the governing of our city.  I believed, and continue to believe, that I bring a unique skill set to my role as a Councilmember. My motivation to represent all voices has solidified over this two-year period.

While serving on City Council, I have had the opportunity to represent Edgewater as a Key Leader Board Member with the Jefferson County Communities that Care (CTC) Initiative. CTC is an evidence-based community model that addresses youth substance use, youth violence, and mental health in Jefferson County. Jefferson High School students that were completing internships with CTC visited City Council to highlight the concerns they face as young people and asked for support from their community. CTC is clearly a needed resource and Edgewater’s embracing of this initiative reinforces that our community cares deeply for the next generation. I will continue to participate and encourage CTC’s efforts. It has been a privilege to support this initiative.

Looking ahead, Edgewater will benefit from efforts to maintain fiscal sustainability and growth that improves the livability of our city. Specifically, I am motivated to ensure our viable and long-term tax revenue through promoting the development of local and small businesses. Also, I am excited to fully back our mobility plan, sustainability focus and comprehensive plan, all of which have been developed through the collaboration of voices in our community.

I hope to see you around the city during the campaign season to discuss your specific needs and ideas for Edgewater. Again, please let me know if you would like to learn more about my re-election campaign. I would be happy to meet with you!

Sincerely,

Cory Reid-Vanas
