Sustainable Edgewater Seminar 31: Net-Zero Energy Neighborhoods

From Geos Neighborhood

From Xerxes Steirer:

This month’s seminar will be presented by Norbert Klebl, Master Developer of Geos Neighborhood in Arvada, who is dedicated to building decarbonized communities. Over the past three years, the Geos homes have surpassed the goal of Net-Zero Energy, and have achieved an Energy Plus rating. Norbert will present about the technologies integrated into Geos homes, including the building envelope, ventilation system, electricity generation, geothermal system, energy recovery ventilation, heat pump water heaters, mini splits, and more. Together, the advanced building systems guarantee a well-ventilated and comfortable indoor environment in an energy independent home that uses 75% less energy than ENERGY STAR certified homes. His presentation will also introduce how the Geos Neighborhood layout contributes to owner comfort and sense of community, with checkerboard home placement, storm water irrigation, open spaces, and cohousing aspects. An Austrian native, Norbert is inspired by the European model of a mixed use community and determined to influence low-impact housing developments, including the expansion of the Geos Neighborhood through 2025.
