From the City of Edgewater:
Denver Water has just announced a lead line replacement program that will benefit all customers even outside the Denver boundary. This program will be initiated in 2020 and will provide for the replacement of privately owned lead service lines. Edgewater is currently in discussions with Denver Water as to a schedule and procedure for the removals.
Denver Water provides water to Edgewater that is lead free, but lead can get into the water as it moves through customer-owned lead service lines and plumbing fixtures. In 2015 the City of Edgewater replaced lead service lines owned by the City.
In doing this project the City was able to identify and provide a program for property owners to replace the lead lines under their ownership at the same time. A few property owners took advantage of this program, but several property owners did not.
Denver Water maintains a test station in Edgewater and has not found elevated lead levels in Edgewater drinking water. Due to the size of the Denver Water system, they are being required to treat water for lead or provide a lead reduction program.
Please feel free to call 720-763-3012 for more information on the program or general questions about lead service lines.
