Edgewater Police Chief John Mackey recognized former Jefferson County District Attorney Pete Weir for his outstanding career and partnership with the Jefferson County Law Enforcement agencies and the citizens of Jefferson County. Chief Mackey, Chair of the Metro Police Chief’s Association, presented Mr. Weir with an appreciation trophy at the last Metro Police Chief’s meeting.
Mr. Weir was first elected District Attorney for the First Judicial District, which serves Jefferson and Gilpin counties, in November 2012. He was re-elected in November 2016 to serve a second term as District Attorney.
Mr. Weir completed his undergraduate degree at Duke University in North Carolina and went on to earn his law degree from the University Of Denver College Of Law.
Mr. Weir started his career in 1979 as a deputy District Attorney in Colorado Springs moving on to many appointments including but not limited to: Executive Director of the Colorado District Attorneys’ Council, Liaison with the Officer of the Attorney General and Governor’s Office, District Judge First Judicial District, Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Public safety, and Senior Chief Deputy District Attorney for the First Judicial District. This does not include the many committees and boards that Mr. Weir has represented.
Mr. Weir’s career reflects his abiding passion for public safety and his enduring commitment to be a strong and vigorous advocate on behalf of the citizens of Jefferson and Gilpin counties and the people of the State of Colorado.
Joel has been a resident of Edgewater, Colorado with his family since 2012. He is the Executive Director of local education nonprofit Edgewater Collective and Editor of the Edgewater Echo.
