AMAZING NEIGHBORS!

WE HAD FIVE NEIGHBORS SIGN UP TO BE THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD BLOCK CAPTAINS THIS REPORTING PERIOD – TREMENDOUS!

Edgewater Officers reported to me this week that there has been an obvious increase recently in the number of calls to Dispatch from Amazing Neighbors who have reported ongoing crime incidents immediately. These reports led to multiple arrests this reporting period thanks to your vigilance and concern for making your neighborhood and our community a better place to be!

Please consider inviting your neighbors to participate in Nextdoor Edgewater and contacting our Neighborhood Watch Coordinator Lorenzo – volunteers@edgewaterpd.com  to get more information on making your neighborhood safer.

36 Arrests for the month of January

Free Clubs – Honda Civics and Honda Accords years 2010 and older account for almost half of our stolen vehicles in metro Denver. The Edgewater Police Department still has a few Auto Theft Prevention “Clubs” that we would like to give away to any Edgewater resident that own either an older Honda Accord or Civic. Please call Nancy Maldonado at 720-763-3013 if you’re interested in a free “Club” – we have a limited quantity.

Radar Trailer

The Police Department is in need of a volunteer to assist with the Radar Trailer. If you’re interested in assisting with traffic speed control in your community we are in need of additional volunteers for this program – please contact Frank Kyper at the Volunteer email address listed.

SCHOOL SAFETY MEETING

On March 20th, Edgewater Police Chief John Mackey, other local police chiefs, District Attorney Pete Weir, Jefferson County School Superintendent Dr. Jason Glass and other community leaders will be hosting a community forum on school safety at Lakewood High School from 6PM to 8PM. In the aftermath of the Florida tragedy, we have been inundated with calls from community … View more members and parents wanting to know what we are doing to protect schools and students. In the past 10 days, the school district has received almost 200 safe2tell reports from students and our schools have reported a heightened tension level. The Edgewater Police Department has provided extra patrols to our schools and utilized outside police agencies to supplement our staffing since the tragedy. SRO Ed McCallin and Edgewater Officers have worked alongside our Jefferson County School District’s Security Team to remain vigilant of any safety concerns in our Edgewater Schools. John-Michael Keyes from the I Love U Guys Foundation, Susan Payne, Director of Safe2Tell and Dr. John Nicoletti will also be joining us for the community meeting.

If you’re concerned about crime in your neighborhood there is no better free program available to us than Neighborhood Watch. Neighborhood Watch coordination is nothing more than getting to know your neighbors and passing along information that the police department provides to you about the calls for service in your specific neighborhood.

Thank You Notes from Neighbors – Kudo’s

Corporal Mike Nesbitt, now with the Red Rocks CC Police Department wanted to thank the many neighbors for their nice comments and thoughts as he moved onto his new job – thank you! I visited with Mike this week while teaching at the police academy and he is very much enjoying his new community!

The department received several thanks to SRO Ed McCallin and Edgewater Officers for the extra patrols that were conducted at our Edgewater Schools these past eleven days – thank you!
